Baby Girl quilt

Here's a baby quilt that I started hand quilting 10 years ago. It was so difficult to pull the needle through that I gave up after 8 blocks. I buried it somewhere - never to be heard from again.
Well guess what? I actually put it on my UFO list to finish this year.
(If I were Nancy where would I put that unfinished baby quilt?)

Well I sat and thought is it in the bottom of my leftover batting drawer. A vague inkling...
Sure enough I unearthed it. I picked all of that hand stitching out last night and quilted it on the long arm today.

Here it is with it's dragonfly stitching.

The rear view.

Binding on today too. I usually make the binding while the long arm is stitching.
This is my 10th finish for February!! Still have 2 more days to go.

More February finishes

My friend Julia gave me this kit that she wasn't going to make. It uses a grid that's printed very lightly on a thin fusible interfacing.

I never used this technique before. All of the squares are cut one eighth smaller than the grid square. then you fuse them in place. Then you stitch in rows.

This was broken down into a top and bottom half.  Here are the 2 halves with the squares fused on. You put them up next to each other and decide if you want to change anything. I changed 2 squares. You just steam the area and peel off the square and replace it. Easy!

Here I sewed all of the bottom half. See how much it shrunk?!

Here it is with both halves sewn together,

Then you sandwich it like a pillow and sew around the edges and flip it right side out.
Try to get those leaves to behave-not my favorite.

Quilted it around the outside edge and face and leaves and stem using matching thread. Buttons and raffia came in the kit. I have to sew them on yet. Calling it done!!

Here's my notebook of my finishes for this month. I was really productive.

Farmyard Baby Quilt

Here's a Baby quilt I started last week. My friend gave me 2 Charm packs of farm prints. I used both of them for this quilt. I used a horse shoe print as the background. The pattern is called "Roundabout" from the book "Another Bite of Schnibbles".
For the back I used a minky type fabric. It was leftover from my Christmas Cactus quilt back. Can you see the Chickens I quilted on it here.

I also quilted Chicken wire on it.

I used a red thread.

Here's the entire back. The chickens are in the middle of the fencing. I will bind it tomorrow with the horse shoe fabric. Binding is already made. This will be my 8th finish for February! 40x40 inches.

Squash Blossom Quilt

Here's a quilt I threw together this week using large leftover flannel fabrics from 5 different quilts.
I cut it out on Tuesday and sewed the blocks. Then I completed the top on Wednesday. So fast because the blocks are 9 inches.

Here's the back using orange flannel from a Halloween quilt and snowflakes from a winter themed quilt.

I quilted it with Tiger swirls from Anne Bright. There's a wet spot on here from the dog licking on it. I already washed and dried it to get the crinkly look. Quilted it yesterday.

I used up 3 wide strips of batting that were cut off of other quilt projects. I just put the first one down and quilted it. When I got near the end of that one I lifted the quilt top and put the next one on. Etc.

Put the binding on today.  So I used up a bunch of leftovers for this entire quilt.
Nothing new was purchased for this quilt. It measures 62 x 68.  I think I'm going to make a couple of more like this to use up more large leftovers. It clears out some stash really fast and those batting pieces that take up so much room. It's a win!!

February Finishes so far

My sister sent me this quilt to quilt on my long-arm. The pattern is called "Wonky Stars" and it's from Missouri Star Quilt co. She used a Jelly Roll with tiny stars on it. It's very vibrant. I chose a Dragonfly Meander stitching pattern by Anne Bright and I used a bright aqua thread.

The quilting.

I used dragonflies because her back was a batik with dragonflies.
Then I even bound it for her using the backing fabric.
Yes, I'm a good sister like that! ha
Now to find a box...

This was a panel/kit that a friend gave me. I then passed it on to another friend and she sewed it together. I quilted it with a water meander from Anne Bright.

This design quilts out super fast and doesn't use much thread.

Here's the back that she pieced. I even managed to center it. ha

This is my #6 finish for the APQ UFO challenge group on Facebook.  We had to list 12 UFOs-one for each month. They choose a number for you to work on each month. February's was #6 on the list. This was an easy finish as it only needed me to make a backing, quilt it and bind it.

Done.

Done.

And Done!

GOOD FORTUNE FINAL

Here is my final photo of Bonnie Hunter's Good Fortune Mystery Quilt.
If you want to see more versions of this quilt click the link below.

I used a yellow thread to quilt it. I used a solid gray for the binding.

I used a quilt design by Anne Bright on this called Clamshell Sun.

Here's the back. I'm calling this quilt
"Tequila Sunrise".

Here's a mini Valentine quilt that I made. The pattern is free on Temecula Quilt Company's Blog on the side bar. It's called "Hugs and Kisses".

I'm calling this "Patriotic Sparkler" quilt.

This is a modified log cabin block. The pattern started out the same as the Chelsea quilt that I made.
Here are 4 blocks together.  The white fabric was from my neighbor.
Here are the same 4 blocks turned a different way.  It's amazing what you can do with a log cabin block.
Back to the circle layout. I thought it was a little boring in the center.
Here's what I came up with. I sewed a random piece to each block on an angle creating a star-blade effect. I was able to break up all of the white space.
I made all the blocks first then added the blades before sewing the 4 blocks together.

Here we are as a completed top with a flowery border added. All fabrics were scraps from other projects except the white and the backing which my neighbor gave me.

I went to Handi Quilter Academy in June and learned more about my design software for quilting patterns. I created all of the stitch designs by changing existing patterns to fit my blocks and borders.

"Drum Roll Please"

There is a great corner design but you can't even see it because of the busyness of the fabrics.

You can see the corners on the back and the borders.

Here's the secondary design from the 4 corners coming together.
You can't see me but I'm patting myself on the back. Ha Ha!
