Sea Horse Collage wall hanging

So I bought a kit for the Laura Heine Sea Horse collage quilt a few years ago.

It came with some fabrics that were smaller than a fat quarter. I was saving this navy blue scrap for the eye for at least a year. I put it in with the kit.

I bought some of my own fabrics that I thought would work. Kaffe Fassett fabrics. I liked this light green eye better.

I never made a collage quilt before. I can't tell you how much fun this was. You definitely need a design wall to pin your pieces to and lots of pins.

Everything overlaps. Gave her a flower crown.

Saved my last fat quarter from a line of fabric called "Girlfriends". It had the mermaids on it. I cut out all of those babies. I have sea horse eggs in the sea weed.

This is the background that I chose for it. It is a dark blue batik. I had the fish fabric in my stash for about 20 years. It was a fat quarter. The pink sponge plant I drew myself and fussy cut the oval tops out of 2 charm squares from Kaffe Fassett fabrics. The tall leaves are from a fat quarter by

 Jane Sassaman called Garden Divas. It's another old, old fabric. I'm glad I hoarded it. I love it on this project.

Remembering Cheri May block

On the Facebook group for Cheri Payne there is a block of the month called "Remembering Cheri". Cheri was a quilt designer who passed away recently and the group is hosting a quilt along. This is the first block. It started in May.

4 girls and Log Cabin. Check

Donut stars above log cabin. Not! I had this one piece of Debbie Mum fabric from the 90's that I wanted to use in this quilt somewhere and it happened to fit right here after adding blue star borders.

Check-Ha!

This heart cornerstone was fussy cut from an old plaid fabric that I have. Loving this project however my blocks either turned out too big or the top part of my quilt is too small. There will be some fudge factor happening before this row is added to the top part. I love an opportunity to make mine unique.

single star pillow

I started off with a 6.5 inch star that I made as a prototype. It was just sitting around. What to do with it?

I used a bunch of blue 1.5 inch squares that I had in a box with about 6oo other 1.5 squares that I used for my Midnight at the Oasis quilt border.

I was going to turn this into a mini wall hanging. So I added a 1.5 inch white border to it. Then I proceeded to make mini hourglass blocks from 2.5 inch squares that I had in the 2.5 inch scrap bin.

They were trimmed down to 1.5 inches. I sewed 10 together for the next border.

I changed my mind! Ha. I decided I would use the red hourglass blocks for another project.

I decided to make a small pillow instead.

Here is the finished pillow. It is 9.5 inches finished.

I slip stitched the opening closed.

Here's the back. You never know what direction a project is going to go.

Patriotic bowl fillers

I used this fabric to fussy cut the cute images for my pincushion/bowl fillers for the fourth of July.

I started out making flag pincushions.

These are so cute. They measure about 3.5 inches.

Ready for a pincushion parade.

Single star mini quilt

I made this mini yesterday. From design to binding in one day. And night.Ha!

It measures about 11 x 15 inches. I love quilts with wavy or scalloped binding. It just adds something extra. This is only the second time I have used a curvy finish.

I used leftover 2.5 inch squares for the hourglass blocks.

I actually quilted this on my longarm with the computer. It's the first time I used the inside crop feature so the quilting wouldn't run over the center star or the hourglasses.
