Road Trip quilt

Basted and ready for quilting.

I quilted a simple wavy design side to side but not on the states.

I used fusible web to adhere the states. Then I outlined them close to the edge with a straight stitch in black thread.

This was a block of the month from my local quilt shop. The pattern and fabric was included for the top and binding. The backing was extra. I used a flannel backing from Joann's. 

I custom quilted this with my longarm machine.

The circles in the sashing were a design done by computer. The buttons also have a computer design in them. I free handed the background.

I had fun with the sewing machine. 

The dresses turned out really cute.

Magnolia Mystery quilt

I decided to join an online mystery quilt that started in August 2017. It required 4 fabrics.These were my picks. I got them at HobbyLobby. Here's the link for the free instructions which are available until March 2018.

I decided to add the pink fabric to the mix when I saw it at Joann's. It was a perfect compliment to the previously chosen fabrics. 

Here are some of the blocks awaiting further instruction.

Here I was playing with the block layout.

So here is the body of the quilt after the final set of instructions but without the border put on.  Instructions are given for 2 different sizes. I made the lap quilt.

I altered the border by adding the small triangles that were cut off of the corners of the blocks.

I came up with this quilting design of ice skates and figure skaters as I plan to gift this to my great niece and she is taking
 ice skating lessons.

Midnight at the Oasis

This is the center of my Midnight at the Oasis quilt. The pattern is by Jen Kingwell. It's a very busy pattern but I love it. It was a little tricky piecing these shapes together but if you take your time you can do it. I only had a fat quarter of the dragonfly fabric so I did the best I could to have it the pattern balanced. The little triangles are scraps and some are fussy cut. I really loved making this part of the pattern.

I'm not one to applique so I just cut the petal shapes and placed them onto a background square. I used a straight stitch with black thread to adhere the edges down. It is considered raw edge applique and I'm perfectly fine with this. It will fray a little but it's a fast process and It's done.

This round calls for more applique. I used a black and white floral swirl fabric instead of applique. I cheat when I must. I like how it turned out. The corners are baskets. If you make this pattern make sure you use a "scant" quarter inch or they turn out too small.

I had a lot of fun with the churn dash/monkey wrench blocks. The blocks are like an eye spy quilt. I fussy cut a lot of the centers. 

This is the checkerboard border. I really liked doing this part of the quilt as it used up small pieces of scraps. I think I could do an entire king sized quilt with this checkerboard look and still not use up all of my scraps. Hmm, good idea.

Here is the quilt with me and all the borders sewed on. I can't believe I haven't taken a photo of the finished quilt. It is quilted and bound and folded on the shelf. I will have to do that and post it. I loved making this quilt. I loved it so much that I made a second one for my friend with her scraps. I will have to post that one too.
