A Custom Quilting Finish for At The Seashore Quilt

This quilt is my version of At The Seashore by Moda Bake Shop.
It was their summer quilt along for 2019. Free Blocks and settings were given over the summer.
This is a view of the bottom half. It turned out 108 x 96 inches.

I custom quilted it. I designed this bird and grass row myself.

I custom quilted the cat tails and grass and bugs.

This quilting design fit these blocks perfectly.

I put rope in this row of blocks.

The buoy row was my favorite one to piece. I loved picking out the different fabrics for this.
Simply quilted with a wave design.

This is the middle section of the quilt.

This is the top section of the quilt. I had to fold it in half and clamp it to the railing.

This quilt started out with these twin pop blocks.

Here are the flying geese. I took a quilting design apart and tweaked it to be a continuous design for these blocks.

The border view. It was tedious. I had to do one section at a time. The flower border has a cotton candy design that I used in the background of the twin pops too.

Here are my paper pieced snails trails waves. I tweaked a swirl design to fit in these blocks.

Here's a quick view of the back. The End.

At the Seashore Quilt along

My first twin pops block for the Moda Bake Shop Quilt along. I got started late on this project because I was out of town when it began.  It's a free project. You pick your setting first then you make your blocks.  I chose a setting but I'm changing it a bit.
I have decided to make mine a row quilt using multiples of just a few block designs.
Here are my blocks for 2 rows. They are supposed to get sashing.

I decided that I was going to make wave blocks at the start of the quilt along. I paper pieced these.
Then they came out with the Buoy block. I had much fun making these. The fish was hanging on my design wall for a year. It insisted on being added to this quilt.

I still have to add water onto the bottom of all the buoys then sew them together. It's been a challenge adhering to this color combination but I'm really liking it now that I've done the buoys.

Moda Love Layer cake quilt

So I jumped on the bandwagon with this "Moda Love" quilt. I've been seeing versions of it all over my facebook groups. It was a free pattern from Moda Bake Shop Blog. In fact I think it was a quilt along. The instructions were posted at the end of January.  I put it together in one day. I used a white layer cake and a batik layer cake that has been aging nicely in a drawer. Here is my first layout.
A little out of balance with the dark blue corner.

So I had enough Aqua squares to make 2 Aqua corners. Moved the blue to the middle.
More balanced.

Then I took the green out. It got rather dull and boring.

Switched it up a bit here. Which one do you like best? After I quilt and bind it I'll do a reveal.
I need to figure out a backing first though.

This is my Remembering Cheri block of the month for February.
It's from a Facebook group I belong to.

This is Jan and Feb next to each other. They haven't given us the assembly instructions yet. I still need March and April blocks to finish it. This sew along started last May.

February Finishes so far

My sister sent me this quilt to quilt on my long-arm. The pattern is called "Wonky Stars" and it's from Missouri Star Quilt co. She used a Jelly Roll with tiny stars on it. It's very vibrant. I chose a Dragonfly Meander stitching pattern by Anne Bright and I used a bright aqua thread.

The quilting.

I used dragonflies because her back was a batik with dragonflies.
Then I even bound it for her using the backing fabric.
Yes, I'm a good sister like that! ha
Now to find a box...

This was a panel/kit that a friend gave me. I then passed it on to another friend and she sewed it together. I quilted it with a water meander from Anne Bright.

This design quilts out super fast and doesn't use much thread.

Here's the back that she pieced. I even managed to center it. ha

This is my #6 finish for the APQ UFO challenge group on Facebook.  We had to list 12 UFOs-one for each month. They choose a number for you to work on each month. February's was #6 on the list. This was an easy finish as it only needed me to make a backing, quilt it and bind it.

Done.

Done.

And Done!

GOOD FORTUNE FINAL

Here is my final photo of Bonnie Hunter's Good Fortune Mystery Quilt.
If you want to see more versions of this quilt click the link below.

I used a yellow thread to quilt it. I used a solid gray for the binding.

I used a quilt design by Anne Bright on this called Clamshell Sun.

Here's the back. I'm calling this quilt
"Tequila Sunrise".

Here's a mini Valentine quilt that I made. The pattern is free on Temecula Quilt Company's Blog on the side bar. It's called "Hugs and Kisses".

Good Fortune Mystery and the last border

I was cleaning my room this week when I stumbled upon this flannel backing fabric. I forgot all about it. Out of sight-out of mind. It has been waiting patiently to be used. Well don't you know that it is the perfect backing for this quilt. Just look at those colors.
I could use a cocktail right about now! haha
This quilt was brought to us by Bonnie Hunter of the famous Quiltville.com
Check out Bonnie's Link up to see other color ways for this quilt.
You can get free pattern until Feb. 1, 2019

Here she is in all of her glory. It fit together perfectly. It is super busy in person. You can't see the chain at all. Not enough contrast between the yellows and the grays. I wish I would have put lime greens in place of the purples and darker greens for the pinks. I'm pretty happy with the outcome though.    What do you think? Would you change any of the colors?
If you are interested in how much I got done in 2018 take a look at 2 posts ago. Enjoy!

Good Fortune with 3 borders on.

Here is my Good Fortune mystery quilt with 3 of the 4 borders on.

It's vibrant if nothing else.

4th border laid out.

Half of them are already sewn together. I should have this all done in a couple of hours.

Good Fortune mystery quilt parts 7 and 8

I actually lost track of part 7 because it blended right in with part 8 which is the reveal of the final destination of this quilt.  So part 8 was assembling these blocks.  If you want to check out the reveal click on this link: https://quiltville.blogspot.com/2019/01/mystery-monday-link-up-reveal.html

These 4 patches ended up being extra pieces that we can use at our discretion.

I am still working on the final piecing of these blocks. They are rather pretty by themselves.

Here are three blocks together. A little funky with the color combo. I'm going to forge ahead and see how I like it after all the borders are on.
This Triple Irish Chain was pieced at least 4 years ago. I used Primitive Gatherings Snowman fabric. I used a Jelly roll plus yardage and a few odd balls from my stash to make it more scrappy. I'm slowing progressing on this. One block at a time.

This was a quick mystery mini from Persimon Dreams. I am going to try their challenge this year. It's called "Project Quilt" hence the P. Q.  If all else fails I'll give it to my sister. She's married to a P. Q.

Last Up is a page of Quilty Items on my Bucket List. Not necessarily for this year. But sometime in my life. Hopefully.
